United Front for the Right to Housing

Frontul Comun pentru Dreptul la Locuire (FCDL) - the collective front for the right to housing is a plattform for the defence of the right to housing in Romania. The FCDL is an initiative of displaced people and those who will be affected. Relatives, friends and activists and other solidarity people are part of FCDL. The association aims for the self-organisation of people for the struggle against abuse of the right to housing and the building of a network for mutual support and media work. The overall aim is the right for dignified housing for everyone. The founding of FCDL in November 2013 took place after a meeting between the community Rahova-Uranus from Bucharest affected by displacement with solidarity groups and other displaced people. Protests and direct action followed.FCDL is fighting against structural problems and combines the following: displacement due to returns of nationalised flats, displacement abuse, the situation of homeless (often previously evacuated) gentirification due to ethnic discrimination and criminalisation of the poor. This workshop introduces the activists and their practice.

Frontul Comun pentru Dreptul la Locuire (FCDL) - die Gemeinsame Front für das Recht auf Wohnen - ist eine Plattform zur Verteidigung des Rechts auf Wohnen in Rumänien. Der FCDL ist eine Initiative von geräumten Personen, und solchen die vor einer Wohnungsräumung stehen. Verwandte, Freundinnen, aber auch Aktivistinnen und weitere solidarische Personen sind Teil von FCDL. Dem Zusammenschluss geht es um Selbstorganisierung von Menschen für den Kampf gegen den Missbrauch ihrer Rechte auf Wohnen und den Aufbau eines Netzwerks zur gegenseitigen Unterstützung und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit in Bezug auf dieses Problem. Ziel ist das Recht auf ein würdiges Wohnen für alle.

Die Gründung des FCDL im November 2013 geht zurück auf Treffen der von Räumungen bedrohten Gemeinschaft Rahova-Uranus aus Bukarest mit solidarischen Gruppen und mit weiteren geräumten Personen. Es folgten Proteste und Aktionen. FCDL kämpft gegen strukturelle Probleme und verbindet: Räumungen infolge von Rückgaben von nationalisierten Wohnungen, Räumungsmissbrauch, die Situation der Obdachlosen (oft ehemalige Evakuierte), Gentrifizierung, die auf ethnische Diskriminierung und Kriminalisierung von Armut beruht. In diesem Workshop stellen Aktivist_innen ihre Praxis vor.
